Charleston Packing Guide
What to wear in Charleston:
- You cannot wear too much pastel. Don’t worry that your shoes and your dress are both pink, or that you’re wearing two different shades of blue in the same outfit.
- I did not wear black one single time while I was there. Not even my shoes.
- I did see a few people sporting black leggings while I was there, but black was the exception and not the rule.
- Loose-fitting, flowy clothes are a staple down in Charleston.
- Long skirts and dresses—I saw a lot of floor-length numbers while I was there.
- I sported a floor-length, flowy dress the first night out, and a floor-length skirt on an excursion to Cyprus Gardens. I felt extremely comfortable in both outfits.
- The length combined with the flowy, pastel colors gives you that grown-up feel without sacrificing your playful side.
- It is never too early for white. White jeans are very popular, even before Labor Day.
- Can’t go wrong with a pair of khaki pants.
- Your daytime outfits will work in the evening as well.
- You might want to dress it up with a darker shirt or a pair of wedge heels, but everything I wore during the day would have worked for Charleston nightlife as well.
- As far as shoes go, I would try and stick to comfortable, close-toed shoes if you’re planning on walking around the historic district. The streets are cobblestone there. Sneakers not necessary, but something you can walk around in for several hours without breaking out in blisters.
